We will open the book.  Its pages are blank.  We are going to put words on them ourselves.  The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day…

Wow!!  Wonderful New Year celebration, which included the best surprise ever!

Best Surprise Ev = Cassie

I was a little bit bummed out yesterday when Cassie told me she was not coming to Indy to celebrate the New Year.  Ben and I Ben’s friends decided we should have people over to celebrate rather than going out.  I knew Cassie was contemplating coming up, so I texted her yesterday to get her final decision:  Not coming because she wants to stay in Louisville.  I was sad, but definitely understood her reasoning for not coming.  I complained to Ben and my mom and KT and told them how bummed out I was that Cassie would not be here.  Cassie and I text all the time and update each other on our lives, but we do not get to see each other nearly as much as we would like.  We have gone an entire year without seeing each other – Yuck.  You can imagine my excitement when I thought I might get to see her and celebrate with her.  And then you can imagine my sadness when I found out it was not happening.

The party was just getting started – actually only two guests had arrived.  I was talking to them, when who should walk through the front door!  O.M.G. Cassie Nolan!  I think I got tears in my eyes when I saw her!!  And apparently Ben knew all along, but kept it a secret.  An amazing surprise!

After all of the excitement, we began the fun and festivities ~ of course it began with drinks.  Most people drank Blue Moon from a keg, Cassie and I stuck with our norm:  Vod.  Yes, in wine glasses.

Ben and I shop at Costco, and the last time we were there, I saw the cutest vodka bottle ever.  So I bought it.  I did not necessarily look at the flavor, I just loved the bottle.  I whipped it out last night at the party and upon tasting, realized it was bubble gum flavored vodka.  Strange, but quite delish.

Cute Vodka

Everyone chipped in and brought an hors devour to share.  I tried to keep my contribution fairly healthy with small turkey sandwiches on yummy wheat bread from the bakery.  I put together a veggie tray.  And of course, I set out some Goldfish ~ my favorite snack ever.   Snacks brought by others included taco salad, spinach artichoke dip,  meat balls, chips and salsa, buffalo chicken dip, shrimp and Oreo balls.  Ben made BBQ weenies in the crockpot.  Tons of food – Absolutely, positively delish!

Besides snacking on Goldfish, I did not enjoy the goodness until much later in the night.  Due to a little drunkeness forgetfulness, I did not snap a picture of my plate.  But I am pretty sure it included Goldfish, a handful of chips and salsa, a sandwich, and a ton of veggies.  I also tasted a BBQ weenie, since Ben made them!

Lots of Beer Pong was going on, while Cassie and I chatted it up.  We had so much to catch up on.  I think I was ignoring my other guests – oops!!  Then we got a great game of Apples to Apples going!  We played forever and I only won a single round.  Apparently I am not very good.  We had Cranium and Guesstures out, but did not end up playing either of them.  What are your favorite games to play when you get together with friends and family?

Too Much Fun

It was great to catch up with Cassie and celebrate with friends.  I even got to make new friends!  There were friends of Ben’s at the house whom I have never met before and that is always exciting, right?

Cassie & Me + New Friends

Throughout the night, I drank water between my drinks.  I am pretty sure this was a tip I picked up from CNC.  So Thanks Tina, because I feel great today!!  I think drinking the water between my vod drinks really helped!  Normally after a night of drinking I am feeling horrible the next day and am super unproductive.  I am actually planning on getting a workout in today.   However, Ben is a different story.  Check it out:

After cleaning up the massive drunken mess from last night, Cassie and I talked it up all morning, straight through breakfast time.  By the time she left, it was nearly time for lunch and I was actually super hungry, which you will notice below.  First, I whipped up some veggies with teryaki sauce.  On the side, I had three oven baked Italian toast crackers by Panetini topped with Laughing Cow garlic herb cheese.

After this I planned on making broccoli, but changed my mind when I got to the freezer.  I decided on a Vegetable Egg Roll by Health is Wealth.  I love these.  And I had a few Goldfish crackers on the side.  Apparently I just cannot get enough Goldfishies in my life.

Lots of Delicious Lunch

Well my lovely Bloggies, I am off to do a bit more cleaning and unpacking of bags that I have not done yet!  This afternoon will be my first workout of 2010 ~ I cannot decide if I will Turbo or hit the gym. Decisions, decisions!  What will your first workout of the new year look like?

Catch you later :)
